On April 7, the Hong Kong Ta Kung Pao reported that numerous well-known high-tech enterprises in Shanghai, including STEP, are steadily pressing ahead. With support from various government departments, these companies are leveraging technology to fight the epidemic and ensure orderly production.

STEP Shanghai factory has received special approval for closed-loop production, and all production lines at its robot superfactory and Xinglinna Motor Factory are operating smoothly and in an orderly manner. The head of STEP told the Ta Kung Pao that, in fact, shortly after the outbreak began, the company had already proactively purchased production materials and stored them in warehouses, as well as stockpiled epidemic prevention supplies, to ensure smooth production and the safety of employees.
To prepare for unexpected situations, STEP developed emergency response plans early in the pandemic, tailored to three scenarios: routine operations, on-site presence, and lockdown measures. It also proactively purchased and stockpiled essential supplies and emergency protective equipment. To understand the status and actual needs of employees stationed at the factory, the company has also established an emergency communication channel for on-site staff. The company provides employees with essential daily supplies such as masks and laundry detergent, and offers basic support to meet the diverse needs of those stationed at the factory.
Boasting Shanghai’s first “robot-manufacturing robot” smart super factory, this super factory also played a crucial role during the recent pandemic. Thanks to the use of intelligent robots in robotic manufacturing lines, the number of workers required has been reduced by 90% compared to conventional factories. Even during the pandemic, the factory’s equipment has continued to operate efficiently, enabling delivery capabilities to remain at pre-pandemic levels—demonstrating that smart manufacturing is playing a vital role in fighting the epidemic and ensuring stable production.
