Robots are “the jewel atop the crown of manufacturing,” General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out. “Their research and development, manufacturing, and application serve as important indicators for measuring a country’s level of scientific and technological innovation and high-end manufacturing.” 。 Thanks to the joint efforts of industry, academia, research institutions, and end-users, in recent years Chinese robot manufacturers have accelerated breakthroughs in key technologies and core components, continuously generating innovative achievements. As a result, the overall performance of their robots has significantly improved, their functionalities have become increasingly diverse, and they now possess independent, full-chain production capabilities.
The report of the 20th National Congress pointed out, “We must continue to focus on the real economy as the key to developing the economy, promote new-type industrialization, and accelerate the building of a manufacturing powerhouse, a quality powerhouse, a spacefaring powerhouse, a transportation powerhouse, a cyber powerhouse, and a digital China.” This will once again open up growth opportunities for industrial robots in smart manufacturing applications and provide new guidance for upstream and downstream enterprises in China’s robotics industry chain to further integrate into the country’s overall development strategy.
The Yangtze River Delta region is a key hub for the development of China’s robotics industry, boasting a large number of enterprises and a well-established industrial chain. In response to the national strategy for coordinated development of the Yangtze River Delta region and in accordance with the requirements of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, to promote industrial synergy and cooperation, STEP has taken the lead as the first-round “chain leader,” joining forces with 12 key enterprises from the upstream and downstream sectors of the robotics industry across the three provinces and one municipality in the Yangtze River Delta. Jointly develop the “Made in the Entire Yangtze River Delta” robot, The main body and first- and second-level components all come from the Yangtze River Delta region. Currently, the first batch of robots has rolled off the production line. We plan to produce the first 200 units this year and aim to reach a total output of 2,000 units by 2025, with overall performance reaching domestically leading and internationally first-class standards.
This collaboration will be powerful. Promote the application of domestically produced robot components within mainstream domestic robot manufacturers in the region, and facilitate the wider adoption of domestically produced robots in digital and intelligent transformation initiatives, thereby enhancing the resilience and security of the industrial and supply chains.
The joint effort to create the “All Yangtze River Delta-Made” robot is highly consistent with the report of the 20th National Congress, which emphasizes “promoting coordinated regional development and building a regional economic layout characterized by complementary advantages and high-quality growth.” This represents a significant decision made by Neway Robotics, leveraging its own strengths in the robotics business. This once again confirms STEP strong brand position and regional leadership as a leading Chinese robotics enterprise. Demonstrates a sense of responsibility and commitment to consciously pursuing high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength.
Since its IPO in 2010, STEP has begun to develop a foothold in the robotics industry. By independently developing robot control systems, servo systems, and software platforms, the company has achieved a technology self-sufficiency rate exceeding 60% of the overall machine value. Today, STEP robots are widely deployed across industries including 3C, lithium-ion batteries, photovoltaics, white goods, metal processing, and automotive components, serving manufacturing enterprises—including “Industry 4.0 lighthouse factories” such as Foxconn and Haier. In 2021, STEP became the first domestic brand to accumulate shipments exceeding 20,000 units, significantly boosting the substitution of imported robots with domestically produced ones and contributing to the refinement of the robotics industry chain, thereby supporting the high-quality development of China’s manufacturing sector.
