STEP Robotics Boosts Its Welding Applications | Grand 2020 Partner Conference Held

On December 20, 2019, the 2020 STEP Robot Partner Conference, themed “Smart Manufacturing Dreams, Welding the Future,” was grandly held in Shanghai. More than 200 partners from across the country attended the conference to witness STEP Robot’s technological achievements over the years, jointly discuss collaborative development, share market strategies and technological trends for 2020, and work together to build a sustainable, cooperative ecosystem for mutual growth.

In his speech, Ji Yi, Chairman of the STEP Group, stated that STEP strategic goal is to become a high-quality industrial robot brand, and the company will focus on breakthroughs through continuous R&D investment and the enhancement of manufacturing capabilities. STEP remains committed to long-term investment in robot R&D and has built an outstanding domestic R&D team. This year, the company also established an R&D center in Japan—a country highly advanced in industrial robotics—aiming to draw upon the world’s most cutting-edge industrial robot technologies and deliver even higher-quality industrial robot products to our customers. To further elevate its production and manufacturing standards, STEP has built a state-of-the-art new robot factory in China. Currently, the equipment for the robot-to-robot production line is being gradually installed, and the facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2020.

New hollow-welding robot SA6/1440H

At this partner conference, STEP Robot unveiled its newly developed hollow-arm welding robot—the SA6/1440H—after two years of meticulous refinement. Developed in direct competition with international brands and rigorously tested through extensive technical trials and practical applications, this new addition further enhances STEP’s arc-welding robot product lineup. The conference also saw the simultaneous launch of a new control cabinet, a new teach pendant, and an advanced welding software package. As the first domestic robotics manufacturer to deeply engage in welding applications, STEP Robot has accumulated substantial expertise in welding technology over the past eight years through widespread market deployment. Moving forward, the company will focus its efforts on expanding its presence in welding applications, leveraging high-quality robotic products to seize market share from foreign robot brands that currently dominate the welding sector.

Professor Hua Xueming, Director of the Institute of Welding and Laser Manufacturing at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, analyzed the current status and development trends of intelligent welding technologies.

The conference recognized partners who demonstrated outstanding performance and achieved remarkable results in 2019. The STEP Gold Partners, Collaborative Partners, and Authorized Integrators were acknowledged by the market for their accomplishments in terms of business performance, market expansion, and teamwork.
The attending guests witnessed a live demonstration of welding applications. Featuring a wide range of plate thicknesses—ranging from thin to medium-thick—as well as various materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and galvanized sheets, and employing multiple welding processes such as TIG and MAG, the entire lineup of STEPeng welding robots was showcased in full force. Through genuine, hands-on welding demonstrations, the guests were able to experience firsthand the technological prowess of STEP robotic systems in real-world applications.
