Smart factories serve as the entry point and breakthrough for promoting intelligent manufacturing, and they are crucial platforms for the digital transformation of the manufacturing sector. As of now, Shanghai has certified and awarded plaques to the first batch of 20 smart factories, with a primary focus on seven key industry sectors: automotive, electronic information, high-end equipment, aerospace, biopharmaceuticals, green chemicals and new materials, fast-moving consumer goods, and energy conservation and environmental protection.
For example, Shanghai STEP Robot Super Factory uses projects as the vehicle. By leveraging industrial robots in mass production and integrating management software such as MES and WMS, we have built a smart manufacturing system aimed at enhancing product quality and reducing manufacturing costs. The completion of STEP Robot’s Super Factory has led to an 80% reduction in workforce through the widespread use of robots, while the first-pass yield for product testing has increased by 15%. Thanks to highly efficient and flexible automation technologies, we have achieved... A designed production capacity of 10,000 units per year, Compared to previous manual operations, productivity per unit area has increased by more than 30%. By implementing a warehouse management system, overall inventory levels have decreased by 10% based on the original lean inventory levels. All key performance indicators at the value-stream execution level have shown comprehensive improvements. The STEP Robot Superfactory has set a benchmark for intelligent manufacturing in complex discrete manufacturing, marking STEP pioneering effort in the field of intelligent manufacturing and serving as a milestone for Chinese robotics companies in their practice and exploration of intelligent manufacturing.
Manufacturing enterprises have achieved remarkable results through digital transformation, enabling horizontal interconnection of business processes, vertical integration, and seamless two-way flow of data and information across all levels. This has propelled enterprises toward comprehensive smart manufacturing upgrades and is leading the way in industry development.
