STEP has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai General Electric Welding Machine to jointly develop the next-generation welding robot system.

On August 31, 2021, Shanghai General Electric Welding Machine Co., Ltd. and Shanghai STEP Robot Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two parties will leverage their respective strengths. Jointly develop the next-generation welding robot system to enhance welding quality and efficiency, and address the labor shortage challenges in the welding industry. Chen Zhengang, President of Shanghai General Heavy Industry Group; Zhang Chennan, Director of the Shanghai Welding Technology Research Institute, which is affiliated with Shanghai General Heavy Industry Group; Wu Yuhui, Director and General Manager of STEP; and Zhou Guangxing, Deputy General Manager of STEP and General Manager of the Robotics Division—leaders from both sides—attended the strategic cooperation signing ceremony and engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges.
In addition to the challenge of a shortage of welders, metalworking enterprises are also grappling with how to improve welding quality through automation and intelligent technologies. Currently, existing welding robot systems are complex to operate and pose a high technical barrier for users. Shanghai General Electric Welding Machine Co., Ltd. will leverage its technological strengths in welding processes and welding materials, while STEP will capitalize on its own technological advantages in the independent development of key components such as robot control systems, servo systems, and software systems. The two parties have established an R&D team to jointly develop the next-generation welding robot system, providing users with welding solutions that are easier to operate, more adaptable, deliver higher welding quality, and achieve greater welding efficiency.
