The light of skills illuminates Guizhou, and STEP Robot paves the way for the birth of “welding” heroes.

On the morning of April 11, the “Intelligent Welding Technology (Higher Vocational Education Group)” event of the 2024 Guizhou Province Vocational College Skills Competition kicked off at Guizhou Institute of Industrial Technology.
This selection competition is organized by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education and the Guizhou Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security. The competition content aligns with the needs of upgrading and digitally transforming the specialty of intelligent welding technology. Over the course of two days, contestants will engage in fierce competition and showcase their technical skills. The top-performing contestants from this selection competition will represent Guizhou in the National Vocational College Skills Competition, hosted by the Ministry of Education.
Thanks to its high reliability, exceptional stability, and extensive competition experience, STEP Robot has become the only officially designated robot for this competition event. To ensure the smooth running of the competition, the competition’s technical working group—strongly supported by STEP—arrived ahead of time at Guizhou Institute of Industrial Technology. The group conducted pre-competition inspections and installation and debugging of all welding robots used in the competition, and provided comprehensive on-site technical support throughout the duration of the event.
“A country prospers with talent; industries thrive on talent. Skilled personnel—especially those with high-level skills—have become a vital cornerstone of China’s modernization drive.” At the opening ceremony, He Huazhong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Guizhou Institute of Industrial Technology, delivered a speech. He stated that the institute’s organization of skill competitions at all levels and in various categories aims to nurture, select, and develop a group of highly qualified technical and skilled professionals, build a number of high-level experimental and training platforms, and cultivate and foster more outstanding engineers, master craftsmen of great nation caliber, and high-skilled talents, thereby providing robust talent support for fully building a modern socialist country.
This competition comprises three major modules: "theoretical knowledge, manual welding, and robotic welding." On the competition field, the contestants remained calm and composed, fully demonstrating their professional expertise and skills. With solid theoretical foundations and highly proficient welding techniques, they showcased the exquisite operation of intelligent welding technology and a spirited, energetic demeanor.
