On April 28, in Beijing, at the Great Hall of the People, the 2024 ceremony celebrating International Labor Day (May 1) and the awards presentation for the National May Day Labor Awards and the National Model Worker Teams were held. Dr. Chen Wei, Director of the Enterprise Technology Center and Senior Engineer at STEP, was invited to attend and received the National May Day Labor Medal. He was recognized for overcoming a major industry challenge—addressing low-frequency jitter in robotics—and achieving significant technological breakthroughs. This marks another affirmation of the diligence, wisdom, and relentless efforts of STEP employees, following Dr. Chen Wei’s receipt of the Shanghai Craftsman Award in 2022 and Wang Chunxiang, a senior R&D engineer at STEP, being honored as a National Model Worker in 2010.
Dr. Chen Wei has been deeply engaged in the field of industrial drives for over a decade, consistently dedicating himself to the research and development of motor control technologies. Leading his team, he has steadfastly pursued independent R&D of core technologies, successfully overcoming challenges such as sensorless vector control for AC motors, servo self-tuning technology, and robot vibration suppression technology. As a result, he has achieved independent control over key core technologies, establishing a solid theoretical foundation and accumulating extensive R&D experience. He holds a nationally authorized... 38 invention patents and a total of 24 academic papers published in journals such as SCI and EI. , has been awarded Shanghai Craftsman, Shanghai May Day Labor Medal, Leading Science and Technology Talent of Jiading District, and In-Demand and Shortage-Listed Talent of Jiading District and received funding from the Shanghai Municipal Talent Development Fund.
At the STEP Enterprise Technology Center, Dr. Chen Wei, guided by a craftsman’s dedication, leads his R&D team to meticulously hone their skills in their field of expertise, constantly refining their techniques. With hard work and unwavering determination, he and his team are writing a remarkable story of artisans pursuing their dreams. The biggest challenge facing industrial robots is low-frequency vibration, which not only reduces the robot’s precision but also limits its efficiency. Therefore, Chen Wei has been leading his team to research ways to minimize robotic vibrations to the greatest extent possible. To tackle this industry-wide challenge, he spent two years poring over more than a thousand references. Day after day, he immersed himself in the lab, and at night, he analyzed data and reviewed literature. Through the team’s relentless efforts and continuous exploration, they ultimately succeeded in solving the problem of robotic vibration by combining multiple technologies across several stages, enabling industrial robots to achieve highly precise and stable operation.
