    The AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive meets the stringent IEEE 519-2014 requirements for current harmonic distortion; it features a standard protection rating of IP31, with an optional IP42 rating; and is suitable for use with asynchronous high-voltage motors, permanent-magnet synchronous high-voltage motors, and more.

    Product Overview

    The New Times ME800 series of frequency converters are widely used in industrial sectors including rubber, petrochemicals, power generation, steel, chemical engineering, metallurgy, coal mining, HVAC, papermaking, sugar production, coke oven operations, cement and building materials, and municipal water supply. They help users significantly improve productivity, enhance energy efficiency, and reduce operating costs.

     

    Features and Advantages

    1. High-quality load for the power grid. The input side of the AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive is equipped with a phase-shift rectifier transformer, enabling multi-pulse rectification. The lower-order harmonics on the input side cancel each other out, resulting in total harmonic distortion that fully meets the stringent IEEE 519 2014 requirements for current harmonic distortion—input current harmonics are less than 5%, eliminating the need to install harmonic mitigation devices. The input power factor is above 0.95 (at loads exceeding 20%), so no power factor correction is required. The figure below shows the harmonic spectrum of the input current.

    2. High-quality motor drive The AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive generates a multi-level output voltage by cascading power units in series. The resulting output waveform approximates a sine wave, and the direct-output distance can reach up to 2,000 meters. The output du/dt is less than 1,000 V/μs, eliminating the need for additional insulation on the motor, and enabling retrofitting of older equipment with variable frequency drives. The figure below shows the voltage waveform at the output side and the current waveform at the output side.

    3. Integrated structural design (up to 10 kV, 2500 kW) The phase-shifting rectifier transformer, power unit, control cabinet, cooling fans, and other components are integrated into a single cabinet structure, enabling complete transportation and installation. On-site, there’s no need to connect multiple cabinets, no need to run inter-cabinet cables, and no need to install fans—making commissioning much easier. Moreover, the entire system occupies a small footprint and can be maintained from a single side. The figure below shows the structural design diagram of the integrated frequency converter.

    4. High-reliability design With over 15 years of accumulated design experience, the entire machine boasts a service life of up to 20 years. Components are rigorously selected, and the system employs a duct-cooled phase-shifting rectifier transformer, high-lifespan capacitors (5,000 hours at 105℃), and high-temperature-resistant cooling fans (up to 60℃).     5. User-friendly human-machine interface You can view running data, I/O status, unit status, fault records, event logs, and more. The figure below shows the status monitoring interface.

    6. Advanced control algorithms The AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive supports VF control, GVC control, open-loop vector control, closed-loop vector control, and torque control. It is suitable for various types of motors, including asynchronous high-voltage motors, permanent-magnet synchronous high-voltage motors, and separately excited synchronous high-voltage motors. It can also enable multi-motor synchronous control (e.g., in belt conveyor applications). The figure below shows a permanent-magnet synchronous high-voltage motor.

    7. High- and Low-Voltage Ride-Through Capability Instantaneous low-voltage ride-through: When the voltage drops to as low as over 20% of the rated voltage, the voltage recovers within 0.5 seconds. The AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive does not report any faults and continues running without stopping. After the voltage recovers, the drive can resume normal operation. Instantaneous high-voltage ride-through: When the voltage rises to as high as within 130% of the rated voltage, the voltage recovers within 0.5 seconds. The AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive does not report any faults and continues running without stopping. After the voltage recovers, the drive can resume normal operation. This meets the SEMI F47 voltage dip ride-through requirement for the semiconductor industry. The figure below shows the test record for low-voltage ride-through.

    8. Power unit bypass (optional) A contactor is used as the bypass device. After a faulty unit is bypassed, the AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive can continue operating at a reduced capacity. With line-voltage self-balancing control, once a unit is bypassed, the three-phase line voltages of the entire system remain balanced, thus avoiding any adverse effects on the motor. The unit-bypass function enhances the overall reliability of the system’s operation. The figure below illustrates the unit-bypass process.

    9. The car starts moving. For applications such as fans, loads with large moment of inertia, and scenarios involving frequent start-stop operations, even if the motor is already rotating, as long as the production process permits, you only need to issue a start command, and the VFD can achieve rapid “fly-start” of the motor within 200 milliseconds. The AS800 high-voltage VFD employs a unique speed recognition technology in conjunction with VFD output phase detection technology to quickly track the motor’s voltage-frequency curve during rotation and rapidly increase the operating frequency to the set speed. The figure below shows the current waveform during the fly-start process.

    10. Virtual Oscilloscope The ME800 supports virtual oscilloscope functionality. By connecting via specialized software, users can select settings for signal type, amplitude, and time axis to observe real-time waveforms of various signals, such as voltage, current, and power. Observing these waveforms helps gain a deeper understanding of the inverter’s operating status and enables timely identification of the root cause from waveform details when anomalies occur. The figure below shows the interface of the virtual oscilloscope.

    11. Flexible control methods and reliable power supply control. The AS800 high-voltage variable frequency drive supports touch-screen control, terminal hardwired control (with analog signal break detection for frequency command input), and communication-based control, enabling three-location control. The standard communication protocol is Modbus-RTU; optional protocols include Profibus-DP, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP, and others. The control power supply features dual-power-source switching capability, allowing for seamless switchover between two power sources—one primary and one backup.
