Application of the Xindashida ET6L Inverter in Hospital Container Logistics Systems in the Logistics Industry

2025-07-16

The box-type logistics system is one of the key components in upgrading hospital logistics. Medium- and large-scale, batch-based, and planned material-handling tasks within the hospital can be efficiently handled by the intelligent box-type logistics transmission system. When paired with Xindada frequency converters, the box-type logistics system can carry a maximum load of up to 100 kg per single task.

Project Background

At the CHCC2025 National Hospital Construction Conference, the exhibition hall dedicated to hospital logistics and transportation systems presented a bustling yet highly efficient scene: logistics robots moved nimbly through various areas, medical specimens sped swiftly through pneumatic transport pipelines, rail-guided carts whizzed by, and boxes on conveyor belts slid smoothly and orderly... These advanced logistics devices have created an independent “highway” for material transportation, providing powerful support for hospitals’ material-handling operations.

Customer needs

Inpatient wards are often located on higher floors—typically ranging from the 10th to the 30th floor (including underground levels)—with floor heights ranging from 2.6 to 4.5 meters. The elevators used for transporting goods need to span across all these floors, resulting in a total height of between 45 and 140 meters. Their operating speeds typically range from 1 to 2 meters per second, placing significant demands on the stability and efficiency of the drive systems. Traditional lifting equipment also faces challenges during operation, such as substantial start-stop shocks, high energy consumption, and noise pollution that can disturb residents. As shown in the figure below, the hospital’s intelligent box-type logistics system mainly consists of a vertical conveying and sorting system, horizontal through-running lines, intelligent stations, a control system, and a monitoring and dispatching system. The overall efficiency of the logistics system depends on both the efficiency of the vertical conveying and sorting system and the efficiency of the through-running lines.

Xinshida Solution

How can we achieve safer and smarter upgrades? The Xinshida ET6L series of variable frequency drives, leveraging their proven track record in the commercial elevator industry and tailored to the specific needs of industrial applications, have been specially designed for logistics lifting applications, providing an intelligent solution for hospital material handling and transportation.

Efficient and stable operation

• The traction machine’s sine-cosine encoder serves as the speed loop, while the magnetic grating scale provides position feedback as the position loop; both loops are integrated into the inverter to achieve stable dual-loop control.

• The inverter features a built-in, optimized elevator position-loop algorithm that autonomously plans the position-motion profile, ensuring more efficient and smoother car movements. Based on this, Xindasheng’s control system can achieve elevator speeds ranging from 1.5 to 2 m/s, with acceleration and deceleration rates of approximately 1.5 m/s².

Save energy and reduce consumption—practicing green healthcare.

• Compared to conventional induction motors, synchronous motors are smaller in size, more efficient, offer more stable control, and have higher starting torque. By using a variable-frequency drive to regulate the motor’s power, energy waste during no-load or light-load conditions is avoided, resulting in overall energy savings of up to 30%–40%.

• The low-noise operation mode effectively reduces interference with the hospital ward environment, helping the hospital create a quiet and comfortable medical setting.

Simple debugging, flexible control

• The STEP next-generation host computer debugging software integrates a variety of functions—including parameter modification, upload and download, import and export, virtual oscilloscope, and debugging wizard—simplifying the debugging process and accelerating the debugging speed.

• The PLC communicates with the frequency converter via Profinet. The PLC only needs to send the target position, target speed, acceleration and deceleration time, and the action activation command. The frequency converter confirms the completion of the motion by using the arrival signal and the current position information contained in its status word.

Lower overall cost

• The commercial elevator market for each device in the integrated solution has high maturity, and component costs are low. • The synchronous motor is highly efficient and energy-saving, and the overall solution is simple, reliable, and has low maintenance costs.

Project Results

Xinshida variable-frequency drives have been widely adopted in box-type logistics systems in the inpatient departments of numerous hospitals. For example, the logistics conveyor system in the inpatient department of Wangdu Hospital (with a shaft height of 48 meters), the logistics conveyor system in the inpatient department of Baotou Children’s Hospital (with a shaft height of 82 meters), and the logistics conveyor system in the inpatient department of Changchun Jirun Hospital (with a shaft height of 55 meters). The application of Xinshida VFDs has significantly enhanced the operational performance and reliability of these logistics systems. In the Baotou Children’s Hospital project, the inpatient building comprises a total of 21 floors (19 above ground and 2 below ground), with an overall shaft height of approximately 82 meters. After adopting the Xinshida ET6L VFD, the dual-compartment elevators in the box-type logistics system can achieve a running speed of up to 2 meters per second, with a rated maximum load capacity of 100 kilograms.

According to calculations, the box-type logistics system equipped with the Xindash variable-frequency drive can complete 150 to 250 tasks per day, with an average daily transportation volume of approximately 10 tons. The maximum payload per task can reach 100 kg. The transmission duration varies significantly depending on factors such as different floor heights and varying frequencies of use at the site. Assuming a lift speed of 2 m/s, plus the time required for material conveyance, the average transmission duration per task is around 40 seconds.
