To foster and strengthen cutting-edge technology enterprises, drive innovative breakthroughs in future industries, and establish a benchmark for industrial innovation, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, the Shanghai Association for Industrial Technology Innovation has conducted research on an Innovation Index for Cutting-Edge Technology Enterprises and developed a corresponding evaluation indicator system. On July 21, the association released the “2022 Top 100 List of Shanghai’s Cutting-Edge Technology Enterprises.” Shanghai STEP Electric Co., Ltd. has ranked among the top ten, once again receiving recognition for its innovation capabilities and core technological strengths.

The ranking assessment covers 1,993 enterprises, including national and municipal enterprise technology centers in this city, listed companies, the top 100 enterprises in emerging industries, the top 100 private manufacturing enterprises, and enterprises undertaking major municipal-level science and technology projects. These high-tech enterprises are primarily concentrated within the “3+6” industrial system: 53 enterprises belong to the three leading industries, while 85 enterprises fall under the six key industries. Among them, 37% are listed on the main board or the STAR Market. It’s worth noting that STEP ranks highest among companies whose core business is intelligent manufacturing.
For hardcore technology companies, technology is the core moat. Over its 27-year history, STEP has adhered to a long-term perspective and steadfastly pursued a path of innovative development. Through relentless R&D efforts, it has broken through key core technologies in areas such as elevator control, variable-frequency drives, motion control, and robotics, making these advancements widely accessible to every user and becoming the backbone supporting industry applications. Relying on the national enterprise technology center’s innovation platform, STEP maintains a high level of R&D intensity. After going public, the company’s cumulative R&D investment has reached 1.56 billion yuan, and currently, R&D personnel account for 36% of the total workforce.
In addition, STEP has also demonstrated strong capabilities in areas such as core independent intellectual property rights. As of the end of 2021, STEP has obtained 730 nationally authorized patents, including 242 invention patents and 266 software copyrights.
STEP will take this inclusion on the list as a driving force for future progress, continuing to place great emphasis on technological R&D and investment, attracting more outstanding talents to join our team, and consistently innovating and optimizing our products and services to help more industries achieve intelligent and digital transformation.
