On-site intelligent welding production line for non-standard steel structures
Recently, in Chaoyang, Liaoning Province, STEP, together with its partners—including Liaoning Ducheng Robot Technology Co., Ltd., a system integrator; Xi'an Zhixiang Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., a machine vision vendor; and Qingyan Tongchuang Robot Co., Ltd., a coating system integrator—jointly launched an intelligent welding solution for non-standard steel structures. This solution leverages software and hardware such as robots, machine vision, and MES systems to provide a comprehensive, end-to-end solution covering the entire process—from cutting and rivet welding to full welding and coating—for the steel structure industry. This represents another significant breakthrough in the application of STEP’s welding technology within a specialized industry segment.

Li Jianjun, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Engineering Construction Welding Industry Association, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, pointing out that due to the high labor intensity and high technical barriers, the shortage of welders will become increasingly severe, making the introduction of robotic welding an inevitable trend. He shared technical insights on the use of robotic welding in the overseas steel structure industry, as well as the benefits of improving product quality and delivery capabilities and reducing labor intensity.
After carefully examining the on-site intelligent manufacturing production line for steel structures, Li Jianjun highly praised the rationality of the technical solution and the effectiveness of the project implementation. He expressed his appreciation for STEP’s approach of collaborating with partners to jointly tackle technological challenges and address pain points in niche markets.
Zhou Guangxing, Deputy General Manager of STEP and General Manager of the Robotics Division, stated that STEP is focused on the “dual-carbon” economy and closely following the rapidly growing prefabricated construction industry. Recognizing the persistent challenge of labor shortages in the steel structure fabrication and manufacturing process, STEP has been keenly responsive to its customers’ needs and has spent many years collaborating with steel structure industry users to explore solutions together. This time, working hand-in-hand with its partners, STEP leverages its comprehensive mastery of underlying robotics technologies, combined with the rapidly advancing machine vision technology and increasingly sophisticated MES systems, to provide a full-process, full-technology solution for the steel structure industry—a pioneering benchmark project that sets a new industry standard. Today, this benchmark project is already running smoothly and stably. Moving forward, STEP will continue to work closely with its partners to promote this solution across the entire steel structure industry, continuously delivering value to its steel structure industry customers. This represents another vivid demonstration of STEP winning strategy for niche markets—this time, centered around the steel structure industry, STEP is pooling resources from the entire industrial chain to jointly build a smart manufacturing ecosystem, helping specialized industry users enhance their automation and informationization levels and supporting the steel structure industry’s journey toward intelligent manufacturing.

Signing ceremony venue
Leaders from collaborating organizations—including Zhang Xin, Chairman of Liaoning Doucheng Robot Technology Co., Ltd.; Zhou Xiang, Chairman of Xi'an Zhixiang Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd.; and Zhang Wei, Deputy General Manager of Qingyan Tongchuang Robot Co., Ltd.—jointly attended the press conference and signed a cooperation agreement on-site. Together, they are committed to addressing the long-standing challenge of intelligent welding in the steel structure industry and helping the sector achieve high-quality development.

Representatives from 107 users in the steel structure industry attended the meeting and observed firsthand the intelligent manufacturing production line for steel structures already in use at Liaoning Ducheng Company.
