From October 22 to 24, the second Guangdong Provincial Vocational Skills Competition—Industrial Robot Welding Competition—was held at the Xinhui Technician College (Gangzhou Campus) in Jiangmen City. The competition attracted 92 welding skill experts from 32 companies and schools.
This competition is hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, and organized by the China Engineering Construction Welding Association, the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Xinhui District, Jiangmen City, and the Jiangmen Xinhui Technician College. Following a preliminary selection process, Shanghai STEP Robot Co., Ltd. has become a co-organizer of the competition, providing all the welding robots for the event and dispatching professional technical personnel to offer technical support throughout the competition.
It is reported that the second Guangdong Provincial Vocational Skills Competition is themed “New Era, New Skills, New Dreams.” Among its 141 competition events, industrial robot welding stands out as one of them. The competition brings together outstanding skilled professionals from across the region, aiming to promote exchanges, enhance skills, and drive development through competition. It also seeks to inspire technical personnel in enterprises and teachers and students in vocational colleges to diligently study technology and hone their skills, thereby contributing to the further enhancement of the “Guangdong Skilled Workers” brand.

Robot welding is highly specialized and demands advanced technical skills. Contestants in this competition must demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of knowledge and practical skills, including welding, robotics, and programming.
In the hands-on skills competition, contestants must complete the assembly and welding of Q235 carbon steel plates and round tubes within a specified time frame. For them, every step—from grinding and alignment to robot programming, welding, and cleaning—requires utmost care and attention. Ultimately, the size of the weld seams, the overall dimensions and shape of the finished product, as well as safe operating practices, will serve as the criteria for scoring.
STEP offers the SA6/1400 six-axis welding robot, as well as welding peripheral products such as wire spool assemblies, robot bases, and welding platforms.

According to statistics, during each competition session, STEP professional technical staff will provide technical support services 2 to 3 times. In addition, prior to the competition, 92 athletes were divided into three groups and received pre-competition theoretical and practical training.

After three days of exciting competition, 34 contestants ultimately stood out and won first, second, and third prizes in both the employee and student categories of this contest. Among them, Zhang Maliang and Wu Zhuobin from Xinhui Technical College took first prize in the employee category, while Yu Hanxiang from Xinhui Technical College claimed first prize in the student category.
This competition has once again allowed us to witness a group of brilliant young people who are writing the vibrant chapters of their youth on the path to mastering robotics skills and pursuing their dreams with artisanal dedication. In the future, STEP will continue to provide advanced, reliable products and first-class technical services to support and ensure the success of even more skill competitions.
