Digital Twin-Driven Robot System Integration | Wu Yuhui, General Manager of STEP, Delivers a Speech at the Smart Robotics Industry Summit

 

The “2020 Smart Robotics Industry Summit—Forum for Leaders of Listed Companies” was held on December 3 at the Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center in Foshan. Wu Yuhui, General Manager of STEP, delivered a keynote speech titled “Digital Twin-Driven Robot System Integration” and participated in roundtable discussions and other networking activities.

General Manager Wu believes that the three key levers and two fundamental pillars constitute the core elements for the transformation and upgrading of China’s manufacturing sector. The three key levers are: the Excellence Manufacturing System, Customer Value Across All Scenarios, and Innovative Business Models. The Excellence Manufacturing System encompasses refined management and decision-making, dynamic demand and supply planning and management, flexible production, and full-chain traceability. Customer Value Across All Scenarios primarily focuses on creating new value from the customer’s perspective through personalized user experiences, digital product traceability, and new sales channels. Innovative Business Models refer to collaborative upstream-downstream operations, service-oriented manufacturing, C2B models, and industrial chain platforms. The two foundational pillars of transformation are Digital Capabilities and Organizational Capabilities. Digital Capabilities include a unified data governance system, a multi-tiered, collaboratively-operated industrial internet architecture, cloud-based service platforms, and intelligent manufacturing technology platforms. Organizational Capabilities encompass dedicated digital project implementation teams, leadership and agile organizational structures, and digital talent development programs.

 


Introduction to the Application of STEP Digital Twin Technology


General Manager Wu also introduced STEP implementation of digital twin technology to advance intelligent manufacturing. By leveraging advanced technologies such as 3D laser scanning, establishing a CAVE laboratory, and building a digital cloud platform for welding production lines, STEP conducts virtual assembly simulations to verify product manufacturability, significantly improving first-pass assembly rates and saving R&D time. Furthermore, these technologies optimize production plans, promote lean manufacturing, enhance factory capacity, and alleviate logistics bottlenecks. From offline programming and virtual commissioning, which enable coordinated operation of robotic equipment and substantially shorten production line commissioning cycles while reducing downtime, to real-time virtual-real integration of on-site equipment—using digital twin technology to simulate the digital world and address physical space challenges—STEP achieves efficiency gains and reduces resource consumption.
