STEP Elevator Cloud Powers the “Shanghai Smart Elevator Code”

Recently, the STEP Elevator Remote Monitoring System completed connectivity testing with the Shanghai Smart Elevator Platform and was awarded the “Shanghai Elevator Remote Monitoring System Interconnection Certificate.”
This system, built on the STEP Elevator Cloud Platform, is designed to help elevator manufacturers connect elevators operating in Shanghai to the “Shanghai Smart Elevator Platform.” Once connected, these elevators will receive a Shanghai Elevator Identity—known as the Shanghai Smart Elevator Code—enabling unified supervision of all elevators in use across Shanghai.
According to a report by the Shanghai Government Website, by October of this year, nearly 270,000 elevators currently in use in Shanghai will all be equipped with the “Shanghai Smart Elevator Code.” Recently, the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation announced that, building on the pilot program in which more than 10,000 elevators in districts such as Huangpu, Xuhui, and Jiading have already been fitted with the “Shanghai Smart Elevator Code,” Shanghai will install the code on an additional 50,000 elevators starting in July of this year.
With this green QR code, you can obtain real-time basic information about elevators, accurately pinpoint their geographic location, and promptly report emergency situations such as elevator malfunctions or people trapped inside. This helps maintenance and regulatory agencies promptly identify safety hazards during elevator operation, while also enabling oversight of both elevator operators and maintenance providers. As a result, we’ve achieved “one-code access” across multiple business areas and dimensions—including public supervision, operational management, inspection and supervision, and maintenance and upkeep.
By scanning the “Shanghai Smart Elevator Code” via WeChat, elevator users can obtain real-time basic information about the elevator, accurately pinpoint its geographic location, and report elevator malfunctions or situations where people are trapped. In the event of an elevator entrapment, trapped passengers can scan the code to access the Smart Elevator Public Supervision System, triggering an immediate alarm with a single tap. They can also monitor the rescue process in real time on their mobile phones, track the rescue team’s progress, and transition from passive waiting to a fully intelligent and visualized rescue experience, thereby alleviating the anxiety of those trapped.
A relevant official from the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation stated that promoting the “Shanghai Smart Elevator Code” is an important means of systematically collecting and intelligently analyzing information related to elevator usage management, inspection, maintenance, and supervision. It also represents a key initiative in the reform and innovation of elevator safety regulation toward “joint construction, joint governance, and shared benefits.”
