The 2019 Annual Meeting and 2020 Spring Festival Gala of STEP were solemnly held on January 15, 2020, at the STEP Shanghai Sixi Road Auditorium. The event was attended by local leaders including Zhang Min, Member of the Party Working Committee of Jiading New City, Member of the Party Committee of Malu Town, and Deputy Mayor; You Weihua, Vice Chairman of the People’s Congress and Chairman of the General Trade Union of Nanxiang Town; and He Congjuan, Vice Chairman of the General Trade Union of Nanxiang Town. More than 300 employees of STEP enthusiastically participated in the event.

Chairman Ji Yi Delivers a Speech

With one heart and unwavering determination, let’s keep pushing forward—no matter how tough the going gets. In his speech, Chairman Ji Yi reflected: Looking back at 2019, I wonder what everyone’s feelings were? To borrow a popular internet term from today, it was simply “too difficult.” Overall, the macro environment was complex and ever-changing, and China’s economy faced enormous challenges, with a clear downward trend in economic growth. At the micro level, our company also encountered significant difficulties. In the first half of 2019, several of our key subsidiaries all struggled with year-on-year declines in performance. Yet, confronted with these hardships, we weren’t intimidated or discouraged. In the second half of the year, thanks to everyone’s desperate and determined efforts, we managed to turn the tide. Achieving this result under such a severe situation was truly no easy feat, and I was deeply moved by everyone’s relentless fight. As Chairman, together with our management team, we’ll always stand firmly behind you—every single moment, every step of the way. Let’s sail through these challenging times together, seize each day with urgency, and make the most of our precious youth.

2019 marked the first year of our implementation of the 318 Strategy. The essence of our strategy is to “cling tenaciously to the green hills and never let go, firmly rooting ourselves even in broken rocks.” With a clear strategy in place, we’ll never waver or give up simply because of temporary difficulties. For STEP to become a company with enduring success, we need to adopt a long-term, end-game mindset and engage in top-level strategic design. Only then can we resist temptation and endure solitude. Our strategy tells us to tackle difficult tasks—tasks that are right and require time to accumulate. Simple tasks often mean fierce competition, whereas only long-term endeavors can build strong moats of protection.

2020 was a pivotal year for strategic implementation, and STEP must take the strategy as our guiding force. At its core, STEP is an innovation-driven enterprise; technological innovation is, in fact, embedded in our very DNA. And DNA is a peculiar thing—it’s incredibly difficult to change. With years of experience in the automation industry and strong R&D capabilities—capabilities that will be highlighted when we present the company’s Technology Awards—STEP has achieved many highly valuable projects that we can truly be proud of. Just a few days ago, I visited the assembly line built by Xiao’ao Robotics, and it was absolutely stunning. Such excellence can only be attained through long-term, sustained effort. These achievements are all the result of our inherent DNA, so let’s not squander this precious genetic endowment. Finally, I’d like to conclude with two key words: First, “Believe”—believe in ourselves, believe in our team, and believe that if I believe, I can! Second, “Persist”—persist in our strategy, persist in doing the right things, persist in tackling challenging tasks, and persist in making long-term investments!

During the 2019 “Excellence in Craftsmanship” awards ceremony, 11 individual representatives of excellence in craftsmanship and 5 outstanding craftsmanship projects were recognized. The Chairman’s Special Award was presented to three distinguished managers and one R&D management team.

Award Ceremony for the Science and Technology Progress Award

Innovation happens every day. Concurrent with the annual meeting, the “First STEP Technology Progress Award” ceremony was held. The winning projects included two second-place awards and five third-place awards.

The Institute of Theoretical Research at the Academia Sinica is established.

The Theoretical Research Office of the STEP Central Research Institute has been officially established. Chen Wei has been appointed as Director, Wang Chunxiang as Deputy Director, and Ji Defa as Chief Advisor. Additionally, 12 members have been appointed as advisory committee members.

Let’s make a date with spring—every cherished memory will echo softly along the thawing rivers. Open your heart and listen to the sounds of spring’s arrival. The flowers, the grasses, and the trees have all set off into the bright spring sunshine, hurrying toward their annual grand celebration, eagerly awaiting a vibrant, colorful chorus.

Following the awards ceremony at the annual meeting, the “Xin Shida Spring Festival Gala” made its grand debut. The four hosts, filled with heartfelt wishes for spring, extended New Year greetings to the audience. This gala featured a variety of performances, including dance, comic dialogues, drama, and choral singing.

Dance: Butterfly's Love for Flowers

The springtime dance “Butterfly’s Love for Flowers” kicked off the cultural performance. Colorful butterflies fluttered gracefully, and flowers bloomed in dazzling profusion—spring arrived with a fresh, invigorating aura, filling the stage with vibrant hues. As the warmth of spring brings forth blossoms, it also carries with it a brand-new hope. The flourishing flowers within our hearts, just like the gentle and lively spirit embodied in the dance, are brought to life through the dancers’ movements, the music, and the lighting, delivering to the audience an immersive, palpable sense of spring itself.

Duet: Moon in the Heart

The duet dance “Moon in My Heart,” accompanied by the guzheng, unfolds as the performer’s hands glide effortlessly across the strings, skillfully blending a variety of playing techniques—such as stroking, plucking, rolling, pulling, shaking, and sliding. The guzheng exudes an ethereal, otherworldly charm, evoking vivid imagery reminiscent of a spring river bathed in moonlight, flowers blooming, and a tranquil night scene. Two dancers engage in a dialogue with the guzheng, walking hand in hand beneath the bright moon. At times they whirl and rise gracefully, at other moments they seem to soar aloft, their movements rich in imagery and endlessly intriguing.

Comic Dialogue – Titanic

The crosstalk performance "Titanic" adapts the film’s iconic lines into Henan dialect, delivering a humorous and witty act that has audiences in stitches.

Jazz dance

Broadway jazz dance is brimming with passion—both fiery and exuberant, yet refined and elegant—infusing both body and soul with vitality and creativity.

Performance of Classic Aria

The performances of Yu Opera’s “Mu Guiying Takes Command” and Peking Opera’s “Farewell My Concubine,” presented by professional teachers, showcased classic excerpts that continue to radiate timeless artistic charm.

My Motherland and I: A Song of the New Era

The chorus performance of “My Motherland and I” showcased a patriotic spirit that remains true to our original aspirations and a heartfelt devotion to our motherland. The closing performance, “Song of the New Era,” saw Chairman Ji Yi leading the company’s leadership team, together with the chorus, as they soared into the future and sang out the ambitious aspirations of the New Era people. The on-site program was brimming with exciting performances and reached one thrilling climax after another, offering the employees in attendance a unique and unforgettable audiovisual feast.

It’s precisely because of this platform that our work and life have become so colorful and fulfilling, enabling us to push beyond our limits and rediscover a whole new side of ourselves. The annual conference awards ceremony and cultural performance lasted nearly three hours. Beautiful moments always slip away too quickly, but at the end of the event, the cast and crew came together on stage and took a group photo to commemorate the occasion, accompanied by the song “Unforgettable Tonight.” The STEP Spring Festival Gala provided employees with a wonderful stage to showcase their talents, strengthened cohesion among colleagues, and deepened their sense of belonging. Next year, armed with all the insights and growth we’ve gained this time, we’ll once again gather together in yet another vibrant spring.
