Professor Wang Tianmiao is a doctoral supervisor, honorary director of the Robotics Institute at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a Changjiang Scholar specially appointed by the Chinese government, recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, Chairman of the IEEE R&A Beijing Region, and an independent director at STEP.

On the afternoon of April 29, Professor Wang Tianmiao delivered a lecture titled “The Transformative Era of Intelligent Machines (5G IoT + AI + RT)” to R&D and marketing management personnel at STEP’s lecture hall.
Professor Wang first introduced the application achievements of new technologies such as soft robots, medical robots, and short-distance mobility service robots. He then shared several key considerations regarding intelligent machines: material needs, information needs, and value needs; the product era, the interaction era, and the precision-service era; the long-term rigid demand for intelligent robots, as well as their role in leading industries, system design, training, and services.
Professor Wang focused on explaining the perspective that exponential technologies will transform the future, and proposed the concept: “Intelligent machines = Perception + Decision-making + Execution = Internet of Things + Artificial Intelligence + Robotics = 5G IoT + AI + RT.” Based on evolving societal structures, disruptive technologies and their timing, as well as specific pain points across various fields, Professor Wang outlined a transformative path for intelligent machines centered on customer needs and driven by national interests. At the end of the lecture, Professor Wang introduced several hot topics and emerging trends in robotics—both internationally and in China—that have attracted widespread attention.
