High-energy ahead! The Guangdong Province Skills Talent Competition is about to kick off with great enthusiasm!

Without highly skilled talent, there can be no “master craftsmen of a great nation,” and we simply won’t be able to sustain high-quality development.

Smart manufacturing—thousands of sails racing forward!
But who steers the ebb and flow?
The issue of a shortage of skilled personnel has been brought to the forefront.
How can the government, schools, and businesses work together?
Tackling the industry’s pain points and addressing its urgent needs?

November 23-26
2018 Guangdong Province Vocational Skills Competition—
Guangdong Mechatronics Vocational Skills Competition
"Employee Group" Competition
Passion · On Stage

Winter is even better than spring—Guangdong Lingnan Institute of Commerce and Technology No. 1 is setting up a stage to welcome guests.

This competition is themed “New Era, New Skills, New Dreams,” and aims to meet the growing demand for highly skilled talent driven by the “Made in China 2025” strategy and the intelligent transformation of industries. Not only do the competition’s standards and participant numbers set a benchmark for similar domestic events, but its organization and technical judging also seamlessly align with those of the WorldSkills Competition.

The competition features two categories: a student category and a staff category. The competition content closely aligns with the practical needs of automated production. In the staff category, the two hands-on competition segments place particular emphasis on the design, assembly, programming, debugging, optimization, and maintenance of robots and machine vision systems.

Shenzhen Zhongweixing has successfully been selected as a sponsor of equipment for this competition, exclusively providing 30 SCARA robots, control systems, vision systems, and teach pendants for the competition.

Over 60 employee-team competitors will vie for honors such as the “Guangdong May Day Labor Medal” and the “Guangdong Technical Expert Award” during the three-day competition.

Direct coverage from the hands-on competition venue

During the hands-on segment, seeing is believing—so the editor did his best to document the entire competition up close, without using flash or disturbing the participants.
Watch quietly—don't say a word↓↓↓

In the entire venue for the hands-on competition, the most eye-catching feature is undoubtedly the competition workstations. The Zhongwei Xing AR5215 series SCARA robots and the AVS3200 vision system are proudly welcoming participants from all over.

Emphasis is placed on practical skills, regardless of educational background or status. The participants include frontline production workers from enterprises, teachers from colleges and universities, instructors at vocational training centers, and staff from school-run factories.

▲ Keep your plans firmly in mind—don’t rush. First, make sure you understand the requirements before taking action.

▲ In the midst of intense debugging—please do not disturb.

▲ What Guo carries around his waist isn't a fortune—rather, it’s his tools, and even more so, his composure and calmness in critical moments.

▲Women are just as capable as men—when women are strong, the nation is strong. I’m sure there’d be no disagreement about that here!

▲ The contestant connects the robot to the machine vision system, turns on the power and air supply, and prepares for scoring. The contestant then operates the robot and places the workpieces according to the judge’s instructions.

▲ A gaze from the sidelines—athletes anxiously await.

▲ The judges determine whether a score is awarded by comparing the robot’s performance and the machine vision system’s operation against the scoring criteria.

Jointly Building a Robotics Talent Pool Through Collaboration Among Government, Enterprises, and Universities

China has always been rich in skilled artisans and craftsmen; however, at present, the scale, structure, and quality of skilled personnel fall short of meeting the demands of manufacturing’s transformation and upgrading.

“Replacing humans with machines” does not equate to building unmanned factories. As industrial robots start running, what’s needed is a large pool of personnel for system installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance. The employment structure in the robotics industry is unreasonable, and the shortage of skilled workers is becoming increasingly prominent.

According to the development plan of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, by 2020, the installed base of industrial robots will reach 1 million units, requiring approximately 200,000 professionals engaged in the application of industrial robots.

This skills competition combines competition with training and uses training to enhance the competition. By jointly organized by the government, enterprises, and schools, it creates a synergistic force for talent development and motivation. It can serve as a valuable complement to the “school-enterprise cooperation and integration of work and study” model and also holds exploratory significance for establishing a comprehensive skills assessment system.
