STEP Listed Among the “Top 1,000 Chinese Enterprises in Innovation Capability 2018”

On November 1, 2018, Renmin University of China (Institute for China’s Economic Reform and Development, School of Economics) released the “Top 1,000 Chinese Enterprises in Innovation Capability 2018” list. This list features four distinct characteristics: First, it boasts broad coverage, achieving full inclusion of all high-tech enterprises in China; second, it employs a rich set of evaluation indicators, encompassing not only the number and quality of patents but also metrics such as the diffusion of innovation value and the promotion of innovation networks; third, it adopts innovative methodologies, leveraging digital technologies—including big data and web crawlers—to accurately extract information on trademarks and online popularity; fourth, it relies on detailed and reliable foundational data, with the ranking based on the “Database of Chinese Enterprises’ Innovation Capability,” which provides comprehensive and high-quality foundational data as its backbone.
The distribution of the top 1,000 companies on the list is shown in the table below. Among them, 106 companies from Shanghai have made the list for their innovation capabilities, including Shanghai STEP Electric Co., Ltd.
