Daringly jumped into the deep pool to rescue a grandfather and grandson who had fallen into the water.
On the morning of June 3, the STEP Trade Union Federation organized a team-building activity in Tonglu, Zhejiang Province. While crossing an iron cable bridge in Daqi Mountain National Forest Park, the bridge deck began to sway violently. An elderly grandfather, holding his granddaughter, lost his balance and suddenly fell into the deep pool below the bridge, along with his granddaughter. Tourists around them let out cries of alarm, shouting, “Help! Help!”

Hearing the shouts as he reached this point, Wang Hao ignored the swaying and danger of the drawbridge. With a few long strides, he rushed to the riverbank, quickly pulled out his phone and other belongings from his pocket, swiftly took off his shoes, and then leapt into the deep pool in the blink of an eye.
Human ladder rescues little girl
Grandpa, who had fallen into the water, couldn’t swim and was already sinking. Yet, despite his dire situation, he was still desperately using his hands to lift his granddaughter above the surface, while the little girl flailed her arms and legs wildly in the water. Wang Hao quickly swam over, grabbed the child in one swift motion, and just in time saw the child’s father also jump into the water. He immediately passed the child to the father’s arms. Meanwhile, members of the STEP team—Song Jibo, Li Jiade, and others—had already formed a human ladder along the riverbank, swiftly helping to pull the child toward shore. When the little girl finally saw her mother waiting on the bank, she burst into tears, clutching her mother tightly and refusing to let go.
The little girl nearly slipped again.
At this very moment, the most dangerous person was Grandpa, who had already sunk beneath the water. Wang Hao plunged into the water again in one swift motion, grabbed Grandpa’s belt from behind, and with all his strength, lifted him up and swam vigorously toward the shore. With everyone working together in unison, Grandpa finally made it safely to the bank.

When Wang Hao was the last one to make it ashore, the tourists couldn't help but burst into applause. The child’s entire family kept expressing their heartfelt gratitude to Wang Hao, but Wang Hao kept saying, “It’s nothing, really—it’s what I should have done.” It wasn’t until then that everyone noticed that Wang Hao’s toes and fingers were bleeding bright red. It turned out that he’d cut his toes and fingers while rescuing the child. Everyone quickly found some bandages and other first-aid supplies for him to wrap up his wounds. Seeing Wang Hao soaked through from head to toe, someone suggested that he hurry back along the same path to change his clothes. However, given the narrow road and the large number of tourists, walking in the opposite direction would cause great inconvenience to others. In the end, Wang Hao decided to continue his journey wearing those wet clothes.
“Love” Expresses Respect to Heroes
At the mountain rest stop, the owner of the barbecue restaurant was deeply moved to learn about Wang Hao’s heroic deed. She rushed over, clutching a large watermelon, determined to present it to the hero who had saved someone’s life. Members of the STEP team arranged the sliced watermelon into the shape of a “heart,” and everyone gave the heroic rescuer a thumbs-up, expressing their heartfelt admiration.
Honoring the hero who risked his life to save others
On the afternoon of June 5, the STEP Trade Union Federation held a “Recognition Ceremony for Wang Hao’s Selfless Act of Saving Others” at its Shanghai headquarters. Zhang Lifang, Chairperson of the Federation, recounted to those present the scene of the rescue and expressed deep admiration for Wang Hao and the heroic actions of the STEP team!
Xu Jiansheng, Group Director of Human Resources, read out the company’s decision to commend Wang Hao for his heroic actions: Wang Hao will be awarded a major merit citation and presented with a bonus and a certificate. Mr. Xu stated that the company will vigorously promote this heroic act of selflessness and willingness to sacrifice oneself to save others, and will infuse this spirit into our work. With united efforts and shared determination, the New Era pioneers will surely live up to their mission and achieve outstanding accomplishments together.

At the event, Wang Hao said he hadn't expected the company to hold such a recognition ceremony and was deeply touched by it. It wasn't a big deal—back then, he hadn't thought much about it. But when the situation arose, he happened to be a good swimmer and had the ability to save them. This rescue wasn't something I could have accomplished alone. Everyone present—including Song Jibo, Li Jiade, and many other Xinshi Daren—rushed to the front line without hesitation, holding hands and working together. Only through their collective efforts were the grandfather and grandson brought safely ashore at the fastest possible speed, pulling them out of danger.
