Football · New Era | Underdog, Hot Favorite?

At 23:00 Beijing time on June 20, the second match of the second round in World Cup Group A took place at Rostov Arena, where Uruguay narrowly defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0, advancing to the next round alongside Russia, which also has two wins from two matches.

Suárez, who has made 100 appearances for Uruguay, scored the only goal, becoming the first Uruguayan player to score in three different World Cups.

Rostov—a name that may be unfamiliar to most people—is the “Southern Capital” where the quiet Don River flows, and also the charming city hosting this year’s World Cup.

Rostov-on-Don

Rostov is located on the banks of the Don River (which serves as the geographical boundary between the European and Asian parts of Russia) and also has access to five seas: the Sea of Azov, the Caspian Sea, the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea, and the White Sea.

Rostov Arena will host the group stage matches and the round-of-16 games of this World Cup. Located along the picturesque banks of the Don River in the city, the stadium features an open-air section in its north stand, from which spectators can enjoy stunning views of the Don River and the city skyline.

Rostov Arena

Not far from the Rostov Arena, a local Russian military-industrial college has successfully installed the STEP SA1800 welding robot in its laboratory currently under construction, and has completed the systematic implementation of welding instruction using this equipment. The complete welding system is equipped with one robot and two single-axis positioners—one for horizontal flipping and the other for planar rotation.

Yekaterinburg is Russia’s fourth-largest city, a major transportation hub, an industrial base, and a center for science and education. It is also an important military-industrial production base in Russia.

Yekaterinburg Central Stadium

Yekaterinburg Central Stadium is one of the 12 venues hosting matches during the World Cup, and a total of four matches will be held here. Before the start of this World Cup, the stadium’s facilities underwent a comprehensive renovation and upgrade. Among the 32 elevators that received technical upgrades, the STEP AS320 variable frequency drive and related electrical accessories were employed.

As a traditional industrial powerhouse, Russia currently lags behind the global average in terms of demand for industrial robots. Leveraging its established business strengths in elevator controllers in Russia and the CIS region, STEP is actively expanding into the robotics market. Currently, several Russian companies have expressed their interest in collaborating with STEP Robotics—including several well-known Russian defense industry giants. With China’s intelligent manufacturing prowess supporting Russia’s industrial modernization efforts, we’re firmly on the path forward.

Finally, thanks to Professor Alexander Gritsyn for the World Cup commemorative coin!

The next match will definitely be even more exciting.
