National Science and Technology Support Program Project | The key technology development and application of the STEP high-power port crane-specific frequency converter have passed acceptance.

On the occasion of the New Year, the China National Machinery Industry Federation organized and held in Shanghai the acceptance meeting for the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” National Science and Technology Support Program project—“Development and Application of Key Technologies for High-Power Port Crane Dedicated Variable-Frequency Drives.” This project is jointly undertaken by STEP, Zhenhua Heavy Industry, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Tongji University.

The expert panel listened to the project team’s work report, reviewed the relevant materials, and conducted an on-site inspection. After questioning and discussion, the panel has reached the following acceptance opinion:
1) The project developed a series of high-performance, low-voltage, high-power frequency converters specifically designed for lifting applications. These converters were successfully validated in large-capacity port cranes, and all research tasks and performance indicators specified in the project’s task book have been completed, achieving the intended objectives.
2) The project has achieved innovations in technologies such as optimized control of torque current and excitation current based on voltage closed-loop, rotor position estimation via high-frequency signal injection, zero-frequency operation with voltage compensation, and GPS and BeiDou-based position correction and control. It has mastered the core technologies for low-voltage, high-power variable frequency drives and has developed a series of related products.
3) The project has been granted multiple patents and software copyrights; it has participated in the drafting of one industry standard related to frequency converters specifically designed for lifting applications; 15 papers have been published; two production lines have been established, enabling mass production capabilities.
4) The project’s organizational and management practices are standardized, the acceptance documentation is complete, and the use of project funds is generally reasonable. Based on the above considerations, the expert panel unanimously agrees that the project has passed the acceptance review.
