STEP Signs Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Hunan University of Science and Technology

On November 19, Zhou Guangxing, Deputy General Manager of STEP and General Manager of STEP Robotics Division, along with his delegation, visited and exchanged views with Hunan University of Science and Technology. They also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the university. Both parties will strengthen the integration of “industry-academia-research” resources and cross-sector collaboration between the university and enterprises, thereby bridging the “last mile” in the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, such as those related to grinding and polishing robots.
The signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement was chaired by Deng Chaohui, Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Hunan University of Science and Technology. Zhou Guangxing and Wang Weijun, Vice President of Hunan University of Science and Technology, jointly attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
Wang Weijun stated that the school’s research team on green, efficient, precision machining and intelligent manufacturing, guided by the national strategy for intelligent manufacturing development and the distinctive features of Hunan Province’s local economic growth, and leveraging their specialized expertise, has developed a robotic system for grinding weld seams in structural components. After several years of dedicated research, the team has already achieved significant progress and breakthroughs. He expressed his hope that through this collaboration, they can complement each other’s strengths and share resources with STEP, demonstrating the commitment and making meaningful contributions in the field of “mechanical engineering.”
Zhou Guangxing pointed out that this collaboration aims to promote university-enterprise cooperation, fully leveraging a technology innovation system in which enterprises play the leading role, the market serves as the guiding force, and industry, academia, and research are closely integrated. It seeks to strengthen the integration of resources—including teaching, production, and scientific research—and foster cross-sectoral collaboration, thereby accelerating the commercialization of technological achievements in grinding and polishing robots, nurturing innovative and application-oriented talents, and creating a win-win situation for universities, enterprises, and society. “The significance of university-enterprise cooperation lies in integrating learning with work,” Zhou Guangxing said. “It enables school-based teaching to draw on more real-world cases for support and provides research efforts with a stronger theoretical foundation for assistance, ultimately helping us achieve our strategic goal of building a ‘science-and-technology-powered nation.’”
During his time at Hunan University of Science and Technology, Zhou Guangxing visited with great interest on-campus institutions such as the provincial key laboratory for “High-efficiency and Precision Machining of Difficult-to-Machine Materials,” conducting a field study of the university’s discipline development.
