The joint research project led by STEP has broken through technological bottlenecks, paving the way for the localization of core components in motion control.

Recently, a subsidiary of STEP received the “2020 Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Award” certificate, uniformly issued by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology. The winning project was “Key Technologies and Industrial Applications of an Independently Controllable Motion Control System Based on Intelligent Parameter Tuning.”

This project was jointly completed by Shanghai STEP Robot Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of STEP, Shenzhen Zhongweixing Technology Co., Ltd., Lianyungang Jierui Electronics Co., Ltd., Southeast University, and the 716th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, among other institutions. Relying on research programs such as the National Natural Science Foundation’s General Program and the Equipment Development Department’s Type Spectrum Project, the project—spanning seven years of industry-academia-research collaboration and interdisciplinary innovation—has achieved independent R&D of core motion-control components and chips, including intelligent servo drives, high-precision encoders, foot-pedal controllers, and core R/D conversion chips. As a result, a comprehensive motion-control industrial chain has been established, covering chip-level, component-level, and system-level aspects.

In terms of economic benefits and project value, this project has overcome key technological bottlenecks in the motion control industry, addressing critical issues such as the low domestic production rate of core components and devices amid rapidly growing market demand for control systems, long procurement lead times for high-precision foreign products, and insufficient levels of intelligence. It provides a complete industrial chain—from core chips and key components to entire systems—that is fully independent and controllable, fostering synergy between technological systems and industrial chains. This multi-dimensional approach is driving Jiangsu Province’s strategic emerging industry—specifically, the high-end equipment control systems industry—toward higher-value segments and enabling it to catch up with and even surpass internationally advanced levels.

Receiving the Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Award this time marks another significant achievement for STEP Da, which has been continuously dedicated to pioneering and innovating in the field of motion control for 26 years, and has made its due contribution to accelerating the localization of core components and devices for motion control.
