Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization released the list of the first 10 benchmark smart factories in Shanghai. STEP Robot Superfactory has been selected. This follows its selection in 2020 as one of the first 20 smart factories in Shanghai and its inclusion in 2021 as a pilot demonstration factory for intelligent manufacturing under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The intelligent manufacturing level of STEP Robot’s super factory has once again been recognized.
Since officially going into operation in 2020, the STEP Robot Superfactory has gradually demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligent manufacturing after more than two years of operation.

In terms of process design, production preparation time has been reduced by 30 minutes per batch, and different structural models can be produced on the same production line with rapid changeovers. Production efficiency increased by 20%; In terms of planning and scheduling, the number of logistics personnel has been reduced from 6 to 3, and the number of planners has been reduced from 2 to 1. The corresponding workforce is reduced by 50%. ； In terms of production operations, the number of operators has been reduced from 6 to 2. Production efficiency increased by 50%, and the product first-pass yield improved by 20%.
STEP Smart Factory
The project’s high-level digitalization and intelligentization not only ensure automated production but also enhance cost-control capabilities. By integrating software systems such as EMES (Manufacturing Management System), WMS (Warehouse Management System), SRM (Supplier Relationship Management), and CRM (Customer Relationship Management), we have seamlessly connected the supply chain, manufacturing processes, and marketing channels, thereby establishing an intelligent manufacturing system for STEPeng Robotics’ super factory. This integration has achieved comprehensive connectivity of information and logistics flows among customers, factories, and suppliers, empowering robot manufacturing with advanced automation, intelligence, and digitalization technologies.
The project has completed the “Assessment Report on the Maturity of Intelligent Manufacturing Capabilities” in accordance with national standards. The maturity level is Level 4. The Intelligent Manufacturing Capability Maturity Model comprehensively assesses an enterprise’s level of digitalization, networking, and intelligentization development across five maturity levels, ranging from low to high. These levels are as follows: Level 1—Process-oriented Management (Planning Level); Level 2—Digital Transformation (Standardization Level); Level 3—Networked Integration (Integration Level); Level 4—Intelligent Production (Optimization Level); and Level 5—Industrial Chain Innovation (Leadership Level).
Shanghai’s benchmark smart factory is under the jurisdiction of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.
