Strongly ranked! STEP makes the list of China’s Top 500 Innovative Technology Enterprises.

Just recently, on the seventh “National Science and Technology Workers’ Day,” the “2023 National Top 100 Innovation and Technology Enterprises Index Report” was released in Beijing, marking the grand unveiling of the list of China’s Top 500 Innovative and Technological Enterprises. STEP has made the list, thanks to its leading capability in product and technological innovation.
The report was jointly prepared by the August Melon Innovation Research Institute, the Institute of Scientific and Technological Intelligence at the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, and the 21st Century Innovation Think Tank. Focusing on micro-level innovation entities such as enterprises, universities, and research institutions, the report identifies, through scientific evaluation and in-depth analysis, the Top 500 Chinese enterprises in technological innovation, the Top 50 Chinese universities in technological innovation, and the Top 50 Chinese research institutions in technological innovation.
Technological innovation is the driving force behind a company’s survival and development. As a national demonstration enterprise for technological innovation and a national high-tech enterprise, STEP has consistently adhered to an innovation-driven development strategy throughout its 28-year history. Each year, it invests heavily in R&D, dedicating resources to the development of new products and technologies as well as the continuous improvement of existing ones, thereby achieving technological innovation and building its own intellectual property rights.
Statistics show that since its IPO in 2010, STEP has cumulatively invested 1.79 billion yuan in R&D, with R&D spending remaining above 200 million yuan per year over the past three years. As of 2022, STEP has been granted 769 national patents, including 300 invention patents and 274 software copyrights. It has also spearheaded or participated in the formulation and revision of 39 national technical standards and 8 industry-specific technical standards.
The emergence of innovative technological achievements has forged STEP core competitiveness, enabling it to maintain a leading position in the industry. This success is naturally underpinned by the empowerment provided by innovation-driven organizations and platforms. STEP National Enterprise Technology Center was accredited in 2014 and has successfully passed four re-evaluations to date. It has established an innovation system centered on technology platformization, highly efficient technology transfer, and high-caliber talent support. Meanwhile, the postdoctoral workstation and STEP Academy have promoted collaborative innovation among industry, academia, and research within the company.
Moreover, STEP has built world-class research infrastructure to foster innovation. It has established China’s first CAVE laboratory and the industry’s first CNAS-accredited laboratory, capable of conducting a wide range of tests—including EMC in semi-anechoic chambers and environmental reliability tests using HALT high-acceleration life testing chambers. The company offers comprehensive testing services spanning from components and parts to complete machines and systems, covering more than 20 different types of tests such as electromagnetic compatibility, climatic environment, mechanical environment, and failure analysis. Its testing capabilities have been recognized by international certification bodies including SGS, BV, and UL.
Being listed among the Top 500 National Science and Technology Innovation Enterprises has further strengthened STEP confidence in seeking solutions through scientific and technological innovation, continuously fostering new drivers and advantages for development, and pursuing a path of high-quality growth.
