On July 28, 2023, the second National Masters of Craftsmanship Innovation Exchange Conference and Forum, themed "Craftsmanship Builds Dreams, Skills Serve the Country," opened in Beijing. More than 500 model workers and top experts took to the stage to showcase their skills, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. Dr. Chen Wei, Director of the STEP Enterprise Technology Center, attended the conference as the sole representative from a private enterprise in the Shanghai delegation. It showcases the artisanal spirit of a science and technology worker in the field of intelligent manufacturing.

At this conference, a total of 34 artisans and worker representatives from Shanghai traveled to Beijing to attend. Among them, five were “Great Country Artisans” and 21 were Shanghai Artisans. During the on-site demonstration event, Dr. Chen Wei was invited to visit the Shanghai exhibition area and took his place on the highest stage for Chinese artisans. The numerous scientific research achievements he brought with him immediately drew the attention of many attendees as soon as they were unveiled in the Shanghai exhibition area, enabling everyone to gain insight into the key technologies behind automated intelligent equipment and the promising prospects for helping enterprises achieve transformation, upgrading, and high-quality development.

The institution has been granted 32 national authorized invention patents and has published a total of 26 academic papers in journals such as SCI and EI. For years, Dr. Chen Wei has pursued excellence with his superb professional skills, embraced a spirit of relentless innovation, and upheld the artisan’s dedication. With hard work and unwavering determination, he has been writing a remarkable journey of artisans pursuing their dreams.
Filled with great enthusiasm, Dr. Chen Wei attended the grand event and was deeply inspired and greatly enriched by the outstanding achievements of various “master craftsmen” from around the world. The diverse digital and intelligent devices showcased in the exhibition areas allowed him to witness China’s remarkable progress in the field of automated and intelligent manufacturing. Taking advantage of this conference, Dr. Chen Wei engaged in lively exchanges and discussions with industry leaders on the trends and applications of intelligent manufacturing, reaching a fruitful consensus.
