Transforming Workers from ‘Operators’ into ‘Commanders’: STEP Invited to Attend the Yangtze River Delta Smart Manufacturing Summit Forum
2025-04-17
On April 9, 2025, the "4th Yangtze River Delta Smart Manufacturing Summit Forum," guided by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization and the People's Government of Jiading District and organized by the Shanghai Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Association and other institutions, opened grandly in Jiading, Shanghai. As a high-profile industry event in the field of smart manufacturing in the Yangtze River Delta region, this year's forum is themed "Integrating Intelligent Chains to Jointly Build a New Industrial Ecosystem" and focuses on cutting-edge technologies in smart manufacturing as well as new pathways for industrial collaboration.
STEP was invited to attend the main forum of this conference, where its President Liang Rui delivered a keynote speech titled “Virtual Reality Technology Leads the New Intelligent Era of Industrial Robots.” In his speech, Mr. Liang shared the company’s innovative practices in the intelligent upgrading of industrial robots, highlighting STEP technological leadership and industry influence as the leading enterprise in the robot manufacturing chain across the entire Yangtze River Delta region.
In his speech, President Liang Rui pointed out that traditional industrial robots are facing “three major ceilings” in terms of programming efficiency, flexible production, and human-robot collaboration. The introduction of virtual reality technology, however, will endow industrial robots with entirely new capabilities—through three key technological stacks: immersive interactive control, real-time digital twin responses, and spatial computing environment perception—thus comprehensively enhancing the level of flexible manufacturing and reshaping the collaborative relationship among humans, machines, and production lines.
Virtual Verification and Maintenance of Production Lines

Virtual verification and maintenance of production lines in the CAVE laboratory (virtual commissioning VC + virtual reality VR)—Liang Rui emphasized: “Only when workers shift from being ‘operators’ to ‘commanders’ can Industry 4.0 truly take root.” The STEPStudio industrial software ecosystem, independently developed by STEP, integrates process simulation, offline programming, and CAM functions. Leveraging digital twin and virtual control technologies, it reduces the debugging cycle for robotic workstations by 50%, helping companies make a leap toward flexible manufacturing. This innovative achievement not only redefines production processes but also sets a new paradigm for the intelligent evolution of industrial robots by focusing on “multimodal intelligent collaboration.”
As a vice-president unit of the Shanghai Intelligent Manufacturing Association, a benchmark enterprise for high-end manufacturing in Jiading, and one of the core enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta’s robotics industry chain, the STEP Jiading base has been recognized as a “National Demonstration Smart Manufacturing Factory.” The company will continue to advance the development of a “VR + Robotics” technology ecosystem, participate in the construction of the industrial metaverse, and contribute to the high-quality, collaborative development of regional manufacturing.
In the future, STEP will leverage core technologies such as virtual reality and digital twins, and work closely with upstream and downstream partners to jointly build a new ecosystem for intelligent manufacturing, thereby contributing to the development of the Yangtze River Delta into a globally outstanding manufacturing hub.
