STEP Wins the “2025 China Intelligent Welding Industry Chain Pioneer Award”

On August 27, the 2025 (4th) Welding Robot Technology and Application Summit was grandly held in Shanghai. Co-hosted by GaoGong Robotics and the GaoGong Robotics Industry Research Institute (GGII), this summit was themed “Unlocking a New Era of Intelligent Welding, Leading Transformation Through Applications.” It brought together over 100 companies from upstream and downstream sectors, as well as more than 500 industry chain guests, to jointly explore innovative pathways and future trends in intelligent welding.

Thanks to its innovative applications in the shipbuilding industry, STEP AI-powered, teach-free welding technology has been awarded the “2025 China Smart Welding Industry Chain Pioneer Award.” This recognition not only serves as an authoritative endorsement of STEP AI-powered, teach-free welding technology but also underscores the company’s leading role in innovation within the field of intelligent manufacturing.

At this summit, Tang Ruobin, Product Director of the Welding Application Department at STEPeng, delivered a keynote speech titled “Application and Innovation of AI-Powered Teach-Free Technology,” and shared in depth STEP latest breakthroughs and practical achievements in the field of intelligent welding.

Tang Ruobin delivered a keynote speech.

In traditional robotic welding, the teach-pendant programming process is cumbersome and efficiency is limited. The AI-powered intelligent welding platform—free of teach-pendant requirements—employs 3D vision reconstruction, AI-based process matching, and intelligent motion control to achieve real-time feature recognition and path planning for workpieces, significantly reducing reliance on manual programming. Tang Ruobin introduced that STEP’s no-teach technology has already been successfully implemented in complex scenarios such as shipbuilding, steel structure fabrication, tower crane construction, and construction machinery manufacturing, achieving a weld seam recognition accuracy rate of over 99%. It supports multi-process adaptability and enables stable, unmanned production, making it a crucial foundational technology for intelligent manufacturing.

New Shipbuilding Industry Sets Welding Benchmark

In ship assembly welding, STEP has overcome the challenges of identifying and path-planning complex welds by adopting a dual-vision approach—integrating both “global” and “local” perspectives. The system not only enables real-time feature reconstruction under model-free conditions but also generates matching welding processes, supports collaborative operations among multiple robots, and significantly boosts overall production efficiency. This achievement has become a key highlight that enabled STEP to win the China Intelligent Welding Industry Chain Pioneer Award.
