Precision and Efficiency in Parallel | Innovative Applications of PC-Based CAM Technology Integrated with Motion Control
2024-03-06
In modern manufacturing, material processing is a critical step. However, currently, many material-processing operations still rely on manual teaching methods to generate and edit machining trajectories, which places high demands on the operators’ experience and skill level and also limits improvements in work efficiency.
In response to this issue, the STEP Motion Control team, drawing on years of R&D experience, has developed a product called... AdtAutomationStudio-CAM software (hereinafter referred to as CAM). By converting graphic and machining trajectory data into machine instructions, it enables visualized machining editing and provides an efficient, precise, and reliable automated solution for material processing.
Case One: Stone Processing
Traditionally, stone processing has always been a labor-intensive and time-consuming task. However, the integration of industrial vision technology with CAM software, coupled with the use of the ADT-6320E EtherCAT bus control card, has revolutionized the conventional stone-processing workflow.

Customer application configuration
· 1 set of ADT-6320E-B08 EtherCAT bus motion control card
· 4 sets of EtherCAT bus-type servo drives
· 1 set of industrial cameras
Customer application-related parameters
· Accuracy: ±1 mm
Industry advantages
· Supports irregular cutting
· Just one tool setting is required.
· Supports simultaneous cutting of multiple graphics, improving work efficiency.
· Supports DXF import files
· Supports real-time camera imaging for editing physical object trajectories, etc.
Summary of Stone Processing Cases
By using the ADT-6320 control card in conjunction with CAM software and an industrial vision system, rapid data communication and coordination are achieved, making the stone-processing procedure fully visualized. Operators can monitor the status of the stone in real time on their computers, perform online editing and adjustments, and dynamically optimize cutting plans according to the actual shape of the stone. This eliminates the errors and waste inherent in traditional stone-cutting processes that rely heavily on experience, significantly enhancing the precision and efficiency of stone processing.
Case 2: Kettle Polishing
By integrating CAM software with the SC30 programmable motion controller, we have realized a process flow that enables online trajectory editing for automated product machining, thereby making the cumbersome manual teaching operations of traditional machining processes a thing of the past.

Customer application configuration
· 1 set of programmable motion controller SC30
· 5 sets of high-performance pulse servo systems
Customer application-related parameters
· Accuracy: ±0.1 mm
Industry advantages
· Supports polishing of various curved surfaces on water bottle exteriors.
· Just one tool setting is required.
· Supports DXF import files
· Visualized trajectory adjustment and editing
Summary of Water Bottle Polishing Cases
By integrating CAM software with the SC30 controller, the cumbersome manual teaching operations traditionally required in machining processes have been simplified and optimized. Operators no longer need to perform tedious teaching steps; instead, they can generate and optimize machining trajectories through online editing and parameter adjustments, significantly reducing human errors and production time. Moreover, multi-axis linkage (RTCP) control enables the realization of complex machining paths and meets sophisticated process requirements, thereby enhancing the precision and consistency of machining operations.
