The International Hardware Expo is here! STEP’s superb skills in “bending and screw fastening” are waiting for you to experience.

Recently, the highly anticipated 37th China International Hardware Fair officially kicked off. The fair is being held grandly from March 20 to 22, 2024, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), drawing attention from numerous top companies and expert scholars in the industry. As a leading enterprise in the robotics sector, STEP was invited by Shanghai Dianke Yunhui Robot Technology Co., Ltd. to participate in the China “Robotics + Hardware” Application Innovation Achievement Exhibition, located in Hall 7.2 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center. The purpose of this participation is to showcase the company’s latest achievements in the robotics field and explore potential collaboration opportunities, jointly promoting the intelligent development of the hardware industry.

 

On the morning of March 20, the China “Robotics + Hardware” Industry Collaborative Promotion Alliance held the China “Robotics + Hardware” Industry Collaborative Promotion Conference in grand style. At the conference, enterprises that have made outstanding contributions to the “Robotics + Hardware” industry were presented with awards. Relying on years of deep expertise in robotics technology and continuous breakthroughs and innovations in the hardware industry, STEP Awarded the honorary title of “Demonstration Enterprise for Collaborative Innovation in Robotics + Hardware.”

 

 

At this exhibition, STEP brought a robotic bending training workstation as well as a screw fastening and disassembly workstation. At the exhibition site, there was a steady stream of customers coming to inquire.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1 Robot Bending Training Workstation

 

 

This workstation consists of a STEP SD-series robot, a bending machine, and associated tooling, and is designed to simulate sheet-metal bending operations. STEP has conducted in-depth research into industry-specific processes and custom-developed bending application software. The software’s built-in bending function package enables long-edge bending, short-edge bending, and combined bending of processed sheets, with bending accuracy maintained within 0.5 mm. The software provides a configuration interface for bending variables, including key parameters such as: bending port number (assigned according to the bending ports configured in the PLC), product thickness, die groove width, bending angle, bending speed, bending acceleration, bending delay distance, bending coordinate system, and electronic scale parameters (used for switching tooling during a single complete bending cycle). By using a robot to perform bending operations instead of manual labor, workers are spared from working in hazardous environments.

2-Screw Fastening and Disassembly Workstation

 

This workstation consists of a screw-fastening robot, a screw-removal robot, and associated tooling. It is designed for screw fastening and removal on mobile phone fixtures. The phone body is placed in the fixture, where the robot secures screws into place. The assembled components are then conveyed along a conveyor line to various workstations for further processing. Once processing is complete, the screws are removed, and the phone body is taken out of the fixture. By automating the tedious tasks of screw fastening and removal, this system significantly boosts efficiency—completing one screw in just 0.68 seconds, far faster than manual labor. In particular, the robotic system eliminates common human errors such as forgetting to fasten screws, stripping screws, or failing to tighten them properly, thereby ensuring superior product quality. Leveraging its core robotics expertise and proximity to the market, STEP has eliminated the need for a PLC in this solution and removed the Z-axis altogether. Instead, it has integrated a dedicated screw-driving mechanism directly into the robot’s control system. As a result, both cost and efficiency are at industry-leading levels, making this workstation uniquely competitive in the niche market of mobile phone fixture screw fastening and removal.
