On March 2, the "3rd High-end Manufacturing CIO Shanghai Forum," hosted by WRE Digital and jointly supported by the Information and Communication Specialized Committee of the China Energy Research Association, the Shanghai Aeronautical Society, the Shanghai Automotive Engineering Society, and the Shanghai Transportation Research Center, came to a successful conclusion. With the theme "Digital Twins: Integrated Development," the forum focused on discussing the achievements made during the 13th Five-Year Plan period in manufacturing informatization and the development directions for informatization during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Meanwhile, the forum’s specially established “Innovation & Intelligence Award” was also grandly announced. Thanks to its proactive exploration and remarkable achievements in digital manufacturing, STEP was awarded the honorary title of “Outstanding Award for Comprehensive Strength in Digital Manufacturing.”

The Shanghai STEP Robot Superfactory is independently developed and integrated by STEP itself, leveraging cutting-edge manufacturing technologies for large-scale applications to achieve intelligent and digitalized operations throughout the entire manufacturing process.

Wu Yuhui, Director and General Manager of STEP, outlined the implementation path for STEP digitalization strategy as follows: Develop industrial robot simulation software; establish a product model library covering STEP robots, controllers, servos, and other products; and through efficient product design, supply chain collaboration, virtual assembly and commissioning, equipment health management, a digital process manufacturing platform, and full-lifecycle technical support for factories, leverage MES to integrate various systems, build a digital ecosystem for the company, achieve digital integration with customer systems, and deepen the application of digital twin technology in manufacturing plants.
Currently, STEP is actively leveraging digital twin technology to advance the implementation of intelligent manufacturing. By adopting advanced technologies such as 3D laser scanning, establishing a CAVE laboratory, and utilizing digital cloud platforms, STEP has moved from virtually verifying product manufacturability through 3D simulations—thereby improving first-pass assembly rates, saving R&D time, optimizing production plans, promoting lean manufacturing, and boosting factory capacity while alleviating logistics bottlenecks—to achieving robot equipment collaboration via offline programming and virtual commissioning, significantly shortening production line commissioning cycles and reducing downtime. Furthermore, by enabling real-time virtual-real integration of on-site equipment through digital twin technology, STEP uses digital-world simulations to optimize physical space layouts, enhance efficiency, and reduce resource consumption.
The “Innovation & Intelligence Awards” are determined through deliberations and selections by a judging panel composed of professionals from various organizations, including industry associations, media outlets, consulting firms, and conference executive committees. After careful evaluation and voting, the final list of annual winners is announced and widely publicized and recommended to the industry and society via the event platform and media channels.
