Shanghai Xiao'ao | Leaderobot 2020 China Industrial Robot Integration Model Award

On December 12, the 2nd China Robotics Industry Annual Conference and the Leaderobot China Robotics Awards Ceremony were held in Nanjing. Nearly 300 prominent scholars, entrepreneurs, investors, and startup founders attended the event in person and engaged in in-depth discussions. Experts from academia, industry, and research institutions exchanged diverse perspectives, providing a comprehensive analysis of the technological, industrial, and trend-related developments shaping the Chinese robotics industry over the past year. Reports delivered by numerous academicians and scholars also offered thorough guidance for Chinese companies in their R&D efforts and market expansion strategies.

This event adopts a “offline forum + online livestream” format. Participants include industry elites from across the robotics value chain—ranging from upstream and downstream manufacturers and R&D institutions to marketing platforms, after-sales service providers, suppliers of core components, system integrators, software providers, end-users, and investment and financing institutions. It is currently an unprecedented annual gathering bringing together academia and industry in the robotics sector.

This event is hosted by the Jiangbei New Area Management Committee of Nanjing City. Centered around the theme “Annual Review and Outlook for the Robotics Industry: Promoting Industrial Innovation and Collaborative Integration,” it has invited over a hundred top industry experts and entrepreneurs who have made significant achievements in areas such as scientific and technological innovation, industrial development strategy planning, and policy, capital, and industry services. The event will conduct an annual review of China’s robotics industry’s technological innovation and industrial development in 2020, followed by an outlook for 2021, while also featuring guests’ in-depth journeys of exploration and expertise in specific sub-sectors of robotics.

This year’s conference consists of three main components: a plenary forum, an awards ceremony, and parallel forums. At the “Collaborative Innovation in the Industrial Robot Industry Chain” forum, Cai Liang, Deputy General Manager of STEP, delivered a keynote speech titled “Digital Twins Driving Intelligent Manufacturing of Robots.” Speaking about the transformation and upgrading of China’s manufacturing sector, he emphasized that a world-class manufacturing system, customer value across all scenarios, innovative business models, as well as digital and organizational capabilities are all critical core elements.

General Cai demonstrated on-site and introduced several application achievements of Shanghai Xiao'ao, a subsidiary of STEP Group, in the field of digital twin technology. Taking a specific demonstration project as an example, the company has showcased outstanding performance advantages in areas such as product manufacturability—virtual assembly verification; lean production—scientific optimization of production plans; robotic equipment collaboration—offline programming and virtual commissioning; new factory construction—validation of production line design and logistics planning schemes; real-time and virtual integration of on-site equipment; and comprehensive support for physical models and wiring harnesses via NVIDIA’s physics engine.

This awards ceremony features 19 categories, covering both academic research and industrial sectors, and also unveiled a ranking list for the robotics industry. Among these, the academic research awards are presented to universities, research institutes, and corporate R&D institutions, encompassing three major categories: the Leaderobot 2020 China Robotics Science Leadership Award, the Technology Breakthrough Award, and the Application Innovation Award. A total of 16 teams have received awards in this category.
The industry awards cover three sectors: industrial robots, service robots, and special-purpose robots. Different awards are established for each of these sectors. In addition, in 2020, the expert panel introduced three special awards—the Industry Contribution Awards—to recognize organizations and institutions that have made significant contributions and provided valuable services to the industry. A total of 63 enterprises and institutions across all industry categories received these awards.

Shanghai Xiaao, a subsidiary of STEP, and its robotics company have been recognized on the list of winners in the industrial category. For 28 years, Shanghai Xiaao has focused on the integration of robotic systems for automotive body-in-white production, maintaining a leading position in application technologies such as digital twins and VR. Leveraging this technological strength, the company is expanding into adjacent general industrial sectors, contributing its expertise and capabilities to intelligent manufacturing. Shanghai Xiaao, an integrator of intelligent manufacturing systems, has been awarded the Leaderobot 2020 China Industrial Robot Integration Model Award. Meanwhile, Shanghai STEP Robotics Co., Ltd. has been included in the Top 30 list of China’s Leading Robotics Enterprises for 2020 by Leaderobot.
