STEP Robotics Wins the “Golden Finger Award” Again, Shining at CIROS 2018

On July 3, at the China International Robot Industry Development Summit Forum and the 2018 CIROS “Golden Finger Award” Ceremony—the annual awards ceremony for China’s international robotics industry—STEP once again won two “Golden Finger Awards” at CIROS. STEP President Cai Liang was awarded the “Outstanding Figure Award,” and STEP SA1400 robot received the “Innovative Product Award.”

Figure of the Year Award | 2018 China International Robot Annual Awards

Cai Liang, President and Chief Researcher of Shanghai New Motion Electric Co., Ltd., is leading New Motion’s advancements in the fields of intelligent manufacturing and robotics. He also holds several prominent social positions, including Vice Chairman of the China Robot Industry Alliance, Vice President of the Shanghai Robotics Industry Association, Deputy Chairman of the Electrical Automation Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, and Deputy Chairman of the Specialized Committee on Electric Control Systems and Devices of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. With expertise in control and drive technologies, he served as the technical leader of a project under the National “11th Five-Year” Science and Technology Support Program. He has obtained more than 20 national patents and software copyrights, and has been awarded prizes such as the Shanghai Invention and Creation Patent Award and the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.

Innovation Product Award | 2018 China International Robot Annual Selection

As the flagship product of STEP Robot, the SA1400 robot features an excellent structural design and high repeat positioning accuracy. It is specifically designed for low-load processes such as welding, assembly, grinding, and cutting, making it particularly well-suited for applications that demand high repeatability, high precision, and operate under harsh conditions. It finds wide application in industries including automotive components, metal processing, and mechanical manufacturing.
STEP Robotics Shines at CIROS 2018

From July 4 to 7, at the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center, Neway Robotics showcased its presence at CIROS 2018, presenting visitors with numerous robotic case studies and serving as an advocate for high-quality robotics in China.

Born for Screw Fastening—STEP Robot’s Screw-Driving Workstation

Customized Structure: This robot is tailored specifically for screw fastening and loosening applications. The Z-axis serves as a screw-driving mechanism, fully demonstrating the importance of independently mastering core robotic technologies.
Customized software: A specially designed user interface tailored for screw fastening operations, including troubleshooting and monitoring.
Outstanding performance: The system implements torque and rotation-angle detection throughout the entire fastening process, automatically identifying and correcting issues such as screw jams, floating fasteners, stripped threads, and damaged slots during fastening. The fastening cycle time is precisely controlled: for screws ranging from M0.6 to M3, the cycle time is 1.5 seconds; for screws ranging from M3 to M5, the cycle time is 1.1 seconds. The average mean time between failures (MTBF) of the structure exceeds 10,000 hours.

Working to build robots that make robots—STEP Robot Assembly Workstation

The robotic assembly workstation for gearbox assembly robots is equipped with torque feedforward and soft-floating functions. The gearbox assembly involves a tight fit, with assembly clearance within ±0.02 mm. If the robot encounters an obstacle during the assembly process, it will simulate human intervention to automatically adjust its angle until the assembly is completed smoothly.

STEP Robot Headlight Gluing Workstation

STEP Robotics has mastered the glue-coating process and developed a glue-coating software package that enables high-speed, stable glue-coating operations. Affected by frequent model changes in the automotive industry, automobile headlight production runs are small-scale and require frequent adjustments to glue-coating programs. STEP Robotics’ offline programming capability makes it possible to quickly switch between different product models.

STEP Robot Arc Welding Function Package

The newly developed intermittent welding function package enables the robot to periodically initiate an arc, advance, stop, extinguish the arc, and perform gradual welding transitions during the welding process. This capability allows for welding in all positions, with low heat input and weld beads featuring a fish-scale pattern that results in exceptionally aesthetically pleasing welds. It is ideally suited for welding thin plates, such as those used in frame fabrication.
