Recently, the National Intellectual Property Administration launched the 22nd China Patent Award “online” ceremony on its official website. The invention patent titled “A Method for Automatically Calculating the Actual Arm Length of a Robot,” developed by Zhongweixing, a subsidiary of STEP, was awarded the China Patent Excellence Award, once again highlighting STEP technological leadership in the robotics field.
The award-winning invention patent provides “a method for automatically calculating the actual arm length of a robot by means of zero-point calibration and arm-length calibration to control precision.” This method is simple and highly versatile, significantly enhancing control efficiency. The patent was granted in April 2019. Currently, this patented technology has been successfully implemented in STEP robots, improving product performance metrics and enhancing user experience.
In recent years, STEP has focused on its core business, identified niche market segments, and deeply implemented a strategy of "benchmarking against imports and surpassing them." To this end, the company has continuously stepped up its investment in independent innovation, resulting in rapid and steady improvements in both the quantity and quality of its patents. As of June 30, 2021, STEP held a total of 687 authorized patents, including 223 invention patents and 252 software copyrights. The company has also participated in the drafting and revision of 30 national technical standards and 8 industry technical standards.
The China Patent Award selection event is jointly organized by the National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization. To date, it has been held for 22 sessions, during which more than 7,000 patent projects—characterized by high innovation quality, strong application effectiveness, and significant demonstration effects—have been recognized. These awards have provided robust support for China’s high-quality economic and social development. This year’s China Patent Award covers a wide range of fields, including advanced equipment manufacturing, artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals, energy conservation and environmental protection, and new materials, vividly demonstrating China’s remarkable achievements in tackling key core technologies.
