How can we address the signal interaction issues between industrial robots and equipment such as punching machines, and achieve integrated management of multiple devices?

As one of the four core processes in automobile manufacturing, stamping not only holds a pivotal position in the automotive industry but also plays a critical role in numerous other sectors, including home appliances, aerospace, and electronics.

Based on a deep understanding of the characteristics of the stamping industry and years of practical experience in this field, STEP has meticulously developed a robot solution specifically designed for stamping—comprising a robot process package tailored for stamping operations and advanced central control software for stamping lines. This system effectively addresses signal-interaction challenges between industrial robots and equipment such as presses, and enables integrated management and status monitoring of multiple devices, significantly boosting production efficiency and product quality.

Robot Stamping Process Package

The Stamping Process Package is a highly efficient tool specifically designed for the stamping industry, capable of greatly simplifying the setup and management of stamping process workflows.

Users can ❶ quickly set key stamping parameters and ❷ monitor data changes in real time during the stamping process. Meanwhile, the stamping process package also supports ❸ rapid teach-in of stamping positions. This process not only significantly reduces programming time but also lowers the requirements for technicians’ specialized skills. To meet the need for producing multiple products on a single production line, the STEP stamping process package ❹ supports storing stamping processes for up to 20 different products.

To effectively prevent collisions between robots and between robots and punching machines, the stamping process package also supports the ❺ robot safety workspace setting function. When two robots are working simultaneously in the same area, by configuring anti-interference DI and DO signals, it ensures that the two robots will not collide.

Stamping Line Central Control System Software

However, customers’ demand for stamping line automation goes far beyond this.

For example, they may need to flexibly combine pressing processes, adjust the number of robots, and even promptly match processes when randomly inserting other equipment into the production line to ensure seamless continuous operation of the entire line... Faced with these complex and ever-changing demands, effectively addressing them has become a critical challenge.

To address these issues, STEP Robotics has specially developed an advanced central control system software for stamping lines. This software can support up to 20 robots operating online simultaneously, enabling real-time production statistics and promptly alerting users when abnormalities occur on the production line. In addition, it features rapid switching between product processes, making the production line more flexible and efficient. With this system, companies can not only meet their current needs for flexible manufacturing but also lay a solid foundation for future upgrades and renovations of their production lines.

STEP Studio: Precise Online Simulation of Automated Stamping Production Lines

STEPStudio enables precise simulation of automated stamping production lines. The software allows you to import any number of industrial robots and supports the import of various equipment models. By perfectly replicating the actual site layout, you can determine the optimal placement of robots, thereby achieving the goal of optimizing the production cycle time. Adjacent industrial robots are linked via IO signals to the press, ensuring that the production line operates smoothly and efficiently.

Application Cases

01 A home appliance company in Qingdao

The air-conditioner outdoor unit production line of a leading home appliance brand in Qingdao urgently needs an intelligent upgrade due to aging equipment and the advancement of a global strategy aimed at transforming into a digital factory.

The stamping process for air-conditioner panel components involves multiple steps. Previously, this was accomplished using several separate stamping presses for individual components. After completing the stamping operation in one step, operators had to remove the component and place it into the next press for further processing. This method was cumbersome, involved high labor intensity, and resulted in low processing efficiency.

Compared to the original manual operation mode, the new production line has achieved an astonishing 50% increase in automation efficiency. Now, this production line can produce finished products at a rate of one piece every 10 seconds, significantly boosting both production efficiency and capacity.

03 An electronics factory in Suzhou

At an electronics factory in Suzhou, the laptop casing stamping line—comprising two production lines—has deployed a total of 38 STEP SR20/1700 robots. On each production line, the fastest cycle time for producing one product is just 8 seconds.
