Nikon multi-turn absolute encoders come in two types.
Magnetic multi-turn encoder: M50A
Multi-turn counts are detected using magnetic components.
When power is cut off, the battery’s consumption current is extremely low. Even when the motor shaft is rotating, the battery’s consumption current remains constant.
The battery's lifespan is calculable.
The encoder continuously compares data from two different sensors. Thus, when the encoder detects a potential fault, it feeds back an error signal to the higher-level controller, proactively preventing uncontrolled operation of the device or motor.
The magnetic multi-turn encoder is suitable for small AC servo motors, small robotic arms, and motors used in robotics.
Optical multi-turn encoder: MX50A
The multi-turn absolute encoder with a simplified version is one that detects multiple turns via a photosensitive element.
The launch of this product makes it easier for customers who have been using incremental encoders to make the transition. It eliminates the magnetic circuit and, during power outages (with backup battery power), employs an optical sensor for position detection. Thanks to these improvements, the number of components has been reduced, enabling more customers to choose our company’s absolute encoders.
Optical multi-turn encoders are suitable for small AC servo motors, small robotic arms, and motors used in robotics.
Single-turn absolute encoder: SAR-ML50A
The multi-turn function has been removed to reduce costs.
